Thanks for stopping by our little corner of the web. We are a small group of people initially brought together by our love of the Dragon Age video game franchise. This place was originally built in result of the original BSN’s forum closure. You will find our site may not be the biggest DA fan site out there but what we lack in quantity we make up in quality. Also, as you can see, we also have a lot of space for non-DA material as we are evolving into a more social site as well.
We have a close knit group of members here that are all thoughtful, respectful and mostly, a whole lot of fun.
If you join us you will notice we welcome new members with open arms and only ask that you treat everyone here as you yourself would like to be treated.
As we are a “mature” site all members must be over 18 years old. That being said, please note we have dedicated boards/threads dedicated to mature topics and material. We also would ask that even then, your posts should be as tasteful as possible and no hardcore pornography is allowed. If you have any questions please PM me before hand I will let you know!
Is Blood Magic really bad or is it just scary? Despite what some Shem would like me to say, I have never made it a secret that I am a Blood Mage and I make no apologies. I have seen people run from me at the mere idea of the notion but for those that know me I doubt you will find many who consider me scary.
Many say that Blood Magic is unnatural but if it is unnatural than why does it exist? Is it just not another form of Magic? It seems to me that most people feel Blood Magic is bad because it requires blood or rather the force of life within the blood. So therefore it must be bad? These same people who claim its evil due to the use of blood/life do so as they chew down on a big piece or bloody steak. Or in the next breath they justify the spilling of blood in some silly squabble over a piece of land or being slighted at the latest fete in Orlais. Does this not seem strange and unfair to anyone except me?
No, the real reason people are afraid of Blood Magic is the power it gives to the user. Human governments and the Chantry prohibit the use of Blood Magic not because it is inherently evil but because it’s something they cannot control. Like everything the Shems are afraid of it comes back to this issue. Can’t control the Elves, subjugate or kill them. Can’t control Mages, subjugate or kill them. The list goes on.
If the Chantry had spent the last 1000 years studying and perfecting the use of Blood Magic perhaps their epic failure at Kirkwall or the embarrassing bifurcation of the Templars from the Chantry could have been avoided. But no, they decided hide behind the skirts of their priests and demonise anything they couldn’t control and we all see how well that worked out.
Oh what a load of complete bloody shite! Blood magic is just misunderstood? Try telling that to all the dead people in Kirkwall! Try telling that to all the Templars that died in the Tower in Lake Calenhad!
Some emo, spooky, faffy Elf bird comes along and bats her eye lashes around for a few minutes and you all go knackered sideways! Blood magic is evil! Must I remind everyone what happened to spooky girl’s Keeper? Must I remind everyone what her and her mate Anders did to Kirkwall? Demons! Phhhtt… Blood magic kills PEOPLE! Get that yea? It KILLS people!
Look yea, I understand that Mages feel all “oppressed” and all but the truth is most people are already scared to death of them to start off with. Throw the daft Blood Mages into the mix and you will have panic. Magic is scary enough without worrying about it being used to boil our blood. Think about how it looks on our end. The only good Blood Mage is one full or arrows, yea? Get it?
So next time Moody Merrill comes along batting her eye lashes, quit being wankers and just ignore her.
Of the youtubers and journalists that that watch out for gamer's interests Jim Sterling and mainly his weekly series The Jimquisition (or biweekly if the gaming world is particularly inspired) has to be my favourite. Not only for his sober style and primal sexual magnetism but mostly because he doesn't let go of greedy or simply shitty behaviours from game developers, corporate or indie, or audiences no matter how commonplace it has gotten. If you go to his twitter you can also see comments about current politics regardless of how many tell him to stick to videogames.
I admit I didn't like his very first videos one bit despite the message. It took him a while to find the right balace for his persona, I guess such a humble and down to earth character can be hard to pull off in an endearing way, but imho he has been getting better and better with each change.
I will put three recent examples of The Jimquisition and we can start discussing from there.
Warnings: language, Saint's Row style big purple dildo, pogs, disturbing corporate mascots, irresistible sex appeal, potential loss of faith on specific game developers... will add more as I think about them.
Of course we may discuss here reviews or anything else. I think he brings up topics worth exploring pretty often and in an entertaining way.
Like with Valve looking for "solutions" to the "issue" of "review bombing". When a company does something shitty that ruins the enjoyment of the game, players go to steam to write negative reviews about it in protest. It lowers the overall score of the game in the steam page and that is an issue that needs fixing. Isn't the system working as intended? "But they are doing it in protest-" yeah, that's what the score is for.
...are scores only valid whem they are positive enough for their taste?
I hadn't really thought about how ironic it is that the big publishers pushed the digital distribution to circumvent stores (when at leas I didn't want anything to do with digital distribution) and that might be what made them unnecessary more than anything else.
Btw when Jim says he definitely didn't give Hellblade a 1, he did for a little while when a certain glitch got him stuck in a loop near the end of the game. Just in case the sarcasm wasn't clear without context. He must have taken it down within minutes, I didn't even see it and wouldn't know about it if it wasn't for his video retraction and apology as soon as he calmed down (and the thousands of comments saying that proves he's a shit reviewer and person). Hellblade must be a stressful game.
So there was a reason why I didn't like that Indie AAA oxymoron. Couldn't quite put my finger in it.
ASFGDFAKFJHAKFKAalso yes indeed and that is why when talking games when the devs said comes up I no longer care about what comes after. Didn't use to be that way, they've trained me to disconnect when the devs say anything.
